| Catfishing june 1st -we were testing new proto types at alum creek. These are new models that just need my ok to be put on the market. They passed with fishy colors. I got a late start we were in the water at 10 p.m. motored up to our free bait store.(a small bay off Howard rd). Tossed the castnet from the roof of the cabin and filled the live well (a 5 gallon bucket)turned to the main channel and powered north 2 miles to the hog back cliffs. The wind was blowing 20 to 30 miles per hour, the lake was white capping with small swells rolling down the channel and crashing on the cliff walls. Carp were Spawning splashing and doing there thing loudly and proudly. I went hit less till a little after midnight . Then the first cat came over the rail-The wind was slowing-and now its dead calm-I charged the planer bobbers with my lamp to start up the awesome glow in the dark feature, baited up with two of our biggest live baits and cast two planer bobbers out to do their duty , wow did they -We got catfish and more catfish-Like some one turned on a switch to catfish bite now.I trolled with the trolling motor at .5 to .7 miles per hour around the main channel with one new planer bobber bumping the cliff wall and over hanging trees- Our new proto type planer working the flats on the far side of the boat about 100 feet off to the side and rear. As we rounded a small bend the planer bobber traveling the flats and criss crossing the main channel drop off went buzzerk -I asked for video and got this side ways footage of the action- The rod that went down was a ultra light with only 8 pound test-This is gonna be good. That Poor little rod is right a way overwhelmed and strains creaks and sings as the drag is hopelessly spun to near its limit. Fish on,and its a nice one .As the fight continues the port rod gets whacked hard and down goes rod two with a good fish. Fish one on the ultra light was not coming in at all he kept pulling the boat in circles- Rod 2 has 50 pound braid and a good fish- So I grab both rods and start to work both fish at the same time. The braid line pole quickly swings a nice channel in to the boat and then set in the rod holder to hold him till I got the big guy to the net- The fight lasted over 7 min. Man this fish was a blast on a little rod and reel and our new model planer bobber proved its worth in the largest fish this year.I stayed till 4:30 in the morning happily catching catfish after catfish till the switch flicked off as fast as it went on. I stowed my gear pulled my trolling motor and powered the main eng.It was time to go home. |
